Understand Your Assignment

Take a look at your assignment. What are the requirements?

  • Is it a short (1-2 pages, 5-min presentation) or long assignment?
  • Are both scholarly and popular sources acceptable? Are certain types or resources banned? Encouraged?
  • Will you need current information?
  • Do you need a variety of formats? Print, electronic, video, audio?
  • What is the writing style? Is it an annotated bibliography, an argumentative paper, a literature review or ?
  • What citation style is required?
  • When is the assignment due? How much time do you have?


When in doubt, ask your instructor. They have office hours set aside to answer your questions and get you started on the right path.
