The video below demonstrates 3 techniques for narrowing your search results: "phrase searching," field searching, and filters.
When you use keywords to search, the PsycInfo database will find articles where those words appear somewhere in the article record (title, abstract, author supplied keywords, journal title, etc). But there's no guarantee that the articles you find will be focused on your topic. There's also many different words that an author might use to write about any given topic, and sometimes the keywords you choose don't match the authors choice of language.
To focus your search and help you retrieve articles that are relevant to a particular topic, you can search using subject headings in combination with your keywords. Subject headings group together articles that are on similar topics.
Watch the video below to learn how to use the select a field drop down menu to search by subject, and how to use the "suggest subject terms" option to browse subject headings in PsycInfo.
Some assignments will require you to find articles published within a certain time period (ex: last 10 years). Watch the video below to learn how you can easily filter your results by publication date.
