Library Dashboard

Dashboard Access

To see the visualizations in the Library Dashboard, you'll need a Tableau Viewer license. There are a limited number of licenses available on campus. At this time, Library team members with Viewer licenses are:

  • all Librarians
    • Tania and Ashley have a Creator Licenses
  • University Librarian (Christina)
  • Assistant to the University Librarian (Emilia)
  • Supervisors (Dalene and Hannah)
  • eResources Lib Tech (Rujipa)
  • Lib Tech responsible for Teaching and Learning (Harry)
  • Lib Tech responsible for ILL (Harry)
  • Library Analyst (Glen; Creator license)

If you need a Viewer license and don't have one, contact Ashley.

Sign in with your usual CapU credentials to see the visualizations. Off campus, you need to be signed on to the VPN.

Panorama

Some dashboards have moved to Panorama, which requires different licenses.

Library Spaces

All dashboards include the last 3 years of collected data. There is no data available May 2019 - September 2019.

  • Total Visits
  • Average Daily Count
  • Average Daily Visits by Month
Observational Count

The users in the Library space are tallied every fall (week 9) and spring (week 10; Easter dependent). Counts happen daily for the week at 10 am, 12 pm, 2:30 pm and 5 pm. Library employees use standardized tally sheets to note the people they observe in each of the areas of the Library. 

  • Average users by count
  • Heat Map - average count by time of day and area of the Library
  • Comparison: Total users by count and day of week, last two counts
Room Bookings

This dashboard is now available on Panorama. 

Teaching and Learning

This dashboard is now available on Panorama.

Collection Use 

For most subscribed resources and the Library circulating collection, data is collected automatically via SUSHI by subscribed tools JUSP and EBSCO UC, and displayed in Panorama.

For resources that do not provide SUSHI harvesting, usage stats are collected manually on a monthly basis and displayed on the Panorama Excluded Resources dashboard.

Wherever available, each "use" is taken from COUNTER 5, Database or Platform reports, Total Item Requests.

Discovery

Acquisitions

Total items in the collection, filterable by Item Type (book, periodical, etc.) and Format (physical, electronic). Data is drawn from CPSLD reporting (fiscal year) and Institutional Research FTE reporting. 

  • Total Items by Year
  • Total Items by FTE (by year)
  • Total Items by FTE, change over time
Expenditures

Monographs spending tracking tool, using Allocations, Expenditures and Encumbrances from Sierra. 

  • Total Expenditure to date, against Allocation
  • Expenditure by Librarian, against Allocation
  • Expenditure by Fund Code, against Allocation
Renewals

Tools to aid in annual database renewal discussions, using collection use data and cost.

  • By product, change from last year
  • By product, change over last two years
  • Cost per use, change over time
  • Cost per use plotted with use
Budget

Data pulled from annual budget allocation for Collections and Institutional Research FTE reporting.

  • Budget per FTE - dollar amount spent per student
  • Budget per FTE change over time
Format

Data from CPSLD reporting (fiscal year).

  • Physical vs electronic format items as a percentage of total collection, raw totals
